Access to the island is possible by ferry or private boat. During the summer season, regular ferry connections operate (ferry Monica – https://monica.ee/soidugraafik-naissaarele/), with the vessel having undergone a major reconstruction in 2019.
Transport on Naissaar is mainly by trucks, a narrow-gauge train, and bicycles.
Naissaar is the fifth-largest island in Estonia, with an area of 18.93 km². Since 1995, the entire island has been a landscape protection area. There are four villages on the island: Naissaare, Lõunaküla, Tagaküla, and Väikeheinamaa. The island has three permanent residents and around ten summer residents.
Naissaar lies off the northern coast of Estonia, separating Tallinn Bay from the rest of the Gulf of Finland. It is the largest and oldest island in the Gulf of Finland and the sixth-largest island in Estonia.
Naissaar began rising from the sea more than 7,000 years ago and was first mentioned in the 11th century by Adam of Bremen under the name Terra Feminarum.
